Arthur H. Radford formed Radford Electronics in 1946 and the immediate success of the company was largely due to Arthur's knowledge and understanding of transformer design. Radford's original amplifiers were destined for PA systems but, after considerable research into the available 'state of the art' High Fidelity designs, Arthur quickly realised he could improve on them all.
Radford's first hi-fi product was the monoblock MA15 power amplifier and, for the time (1959), the distortion from this model was so low that Arthur had to design special measuring equipment to determine the true performance (Radford test gear became almost as famous as the amplifiers themselves).
In the 1960s the Radford STA25, so named because of its 25W per channel output, became the 'high end' amplifier of choice for the audiophile, reaching legendary status that still commands ultra-high prices on the second-user markets today.
Arthur's other passion was for high performance loudspeakers. Together with A. R. Bailey, Arthur began the first commercial implementation of what we now call the Transmission Line speaker. Ever innovative Radford also researched and produced 'omni-directional' speakers using multiple drive units that delivered a full power response across all listening axes. Many Radford loudspeaker designs are lovingly cherished and still in regular use by their owners.
Arthur Radford retired in 1989 but the legend lives on. Today Radford Electronics is dedicated to reviving the classic designs Arthur instigated and bringing them to you in modern 'state of the art' form.
Built to an outstanding quality, and designed to achieve unparalleled performance , these new designs will be true audiophile classics, both now and in the future.
